Debts

Perhaps you are working in prostitution because you have financial problems or debts. Do not feel embarrassed about this. Many people have high levels of debt. You are not alone. There are advice centres which can help you and suggest solutions. It is often the case that debts lead to further debts. It is a vicious circle. German courses

If you speak German, you will have better career opportunities. You will find it easier to find your way around. In Trier, you can attend a free language course. The language course is held in the morning in the centre of the town and it is only for women. If you are interested, you can contact the Department of Public Health (Gesundheitsamt) social worker or ara (AIDS-Hilfe Trier) or the Beirat für Migration und Integration (‘Migration and Integration Advisory Board’).

Addiction

Many female sex workers have problems with medicines, alcohol or drugs. Gambling and eating disorders can also create dependency. These forms of dependency can affect your powers of perception and your self-control. It is possible that you will be more likely to find yourself in dangerous situations, for example have sex without a condom, and that you will not look after yourself as well. If you are in this situation and you would like to do something about it, it is important that you obtain guidance. The Health staff at the Department of Public Health (Gesundheitsamt) and the ara (AIDS-Hilfe Trier) staff will help you with this.
