Sperm are very quick and it only takes a single sperm to cause a pregnancy. More information about contraception

 

 

… when working when you have your period, wet wipes can also replace tampons? NO!
Soft tampons are specifically designed to ensure that it is possible to have sex during one’s period. That is not the case with wet wipes.

 

 

… abortions do not have any health consequences? NO!
With any abortion, there is a risk of inflammation which can alter the uterine cavity and prevent further pregnancy. Further information about emergencies

 

 

… you can never become pregnant with a coil? NO!
If you have the coil removed, you will have a normal cycle again after a short period of time and you will be able to become pregnant. More information about contraception

 

 

… you can only become pregnant or you can only become infected with diseases if the man comes inside the vagina? NO!
Before ejaculation, the man loses what are known as drops of precum, which can be sufficient to become pregnant. You can also become infected with diseases.

 

 

… vaccinations protect against sexually transmitted diseases? YES AND NO!
You can have a vaccination to protect you against e.g. hepatitis A and B, but you cannot have a vaccination to protect you against HIV. In principle, condoms are the best protection against disease.

 

 

… you cannot become infected with diseases if you are licked by a client? NO!
You can get some diseases this way. But don’t worry: You can be tested for all these diseases in the Gesundheitsamt (Public Health Department) and you can be treated for them.

 

 

… you must pay taxes as a sex worker? YES!

… you must register as a sex worker with an authority? YES!
The New German Protection of Prostitutes Act (ProstSchG) applies since 1 July 2017. You have to register as a sex worker and now require an identity card, the “Prostitute’s Permit” (“Hurenpass”). You can register with the Public Order Office (Ordnungsamt) in Trier. You can obtain additional information on the legal issues here.

 

 

… the Department of Public Health (Gesundheitsamt) will report you to the Police (Polizei) or the Public Order Office (Ordnungsamt) if you work illegally as a sex worker? NO!
You can also continue to receive counselling at the Department of Public Health (Gesundheitsamt) without stating your name. This is set out in the German Protection Against Infectious Diseases Act (IfSG). Even if you work illegally you have a right to receive assistance, counselling and health examinations at the Department of Public Health (Gesundheitsamt).
