Sex is a need most humans have. That’s why everybody in Germany can have sex if they want to and doesn’t break any laws. For disabled people, it is sometimes difficult to have sex. Sometimes they depend on the help of sexual assistance or sexual attendance.
Passive sexual assistance
This entails everything which enables disabled people to satisfy their sexual needs. This includes: Information and advice, procurement of aids and pornography, arranging for a sexual attendant, etc. If you would like to find out about passive sexual assistance, you can contact the AIDS-Hilfe Trier or the pro familia Trier.
Sexual attendance (active sexual assistance)
Sexual attendants have been specially trained to actively help disabled people to live out their sexuality. This might include exchanging caresses, but also sexual intercourse or other sexual services. Sexual attendants are paid for their work.
How to recognise trustworthy sexual attendants?
Beware: Not every sex worker calling herself a sexual attendant is really qualified for this type of work. To recognise trustworthy sexual attendants is not always an easy task! However, there are a few important tips:
- All legal sexual attendants have a prostitute passport and keep to legal requirements (e. g. only to work with adult customers).
- There must not be any dependent relationship! Anyone looking after or supporting a disabled person is not allowed to also be their sexual attendant.
- Different organisations offer advanced training to become a sexual attendant to sex workers. These also serve to convey some pedagogic and carer competences. Professional sexual attendants have taken part in such advanced training and can provide a certificate to this end.
- Professional sexual attendants come to clear agreements beforehand as to what they can offer and what they can’t, and as to the costs involved. They don’t engage in practices to which a disabled customer has not specifically agreed.
How to find a qualified sex attendant?
There is no advice centre in Trier which co-educates sexual attendants or checks sexual attendants’ qualifications. In addition, advice centres are not allowed to recommend any specific sexual attendant.
