LAW

In Germany, prostitution is permitted by law and hence absolutely legal. There are laws regulating prostitution in Germany. Sex workers and club operators as well as their customers/punters have to observe these laws, too.

Prostitution Act

The Prostitution Act regulates relationships between sex workers and their customers/punters.

This Act for instance states the following: Sex workers are allowed to decide for themselves what kind of sex they offer and what kind they don’t. Sex workers are allowed to refuse customers.

If a customer wants a certain type of sex, he has to discuss this in advance with a sex worker. The price is also agreed in advance!

Protection of Prostitutes Act

Since 2017, there now also is a Protection of Prostitutes Act. Amongst others, this Act states the following: Customers have to use a condom for oral, vaginal and anal sex! Club operators have to point out this obligation to wear a condom.

Important laws

Forced prostitution and prostitution with minors are prohibited by law, and of course customers must never threaten sex workers or insist on certain types of sex.

By the way, there are no mandatory examinations for sex workers! However, they can voluntarily have themselves tested for sexually transmitted diseases by the Department of Public Health.
